Why can’t you give Caldarus gifts?
You cannot give Caldarus gifts until completing the story quest Breaking The Fire Seal. This is a main-story prerequisite, so trying different items before the quest will not unlock gifting. Continue the story first, then return to the current gift system.
This answer necessarily reveals the name of a later quest but avoids describing its plot. Unlocking gifts does not automatically complete Caldarus’s heart-event or romance requirements. Keep story progression, gifts, events, and marriage as separate checks.

Collected Liked examples include Beet Soup, Breath of Flame, Chili Coconut Curry, Chocolate Cake, Crab Cakes, Fish Tacos, Golden Cheesecake, Golden Cookies, Ice Cream Sundae, Incredibly Hot Pot, Lobster Roll, Marigold, Mushroom Steak Dinner, Perch Risotto, Pumpkin Pie, Sea Bream Rice, Spirit Mushroom Tea, Vegetable Pot Pie, and Vegetable Quiche. These can provide alternatives when a Loved recipe is unavailable. Confirm the current item spelling and preference tier after updates.
Dragon Claw and Dragon Scale appear in the collected Disliked group, while Unknown Dragon Statuette appears as Hated. A dragon-themed item is therefore not automatically a good Caldarus gift. Use the exact preference rather than the name theme.
Caldarus heart events without story spoilers
Caldarus has a dedicated heart-event sequence, and its source page carries a major-spoiler warning. This guide does not reproduce the scene dialogue or plot outcome. Verify the previous event, heart level, main-story state, location, time, season, and weather before troubleshooting.

His path is story-sensitive, so do not treat him as available from the same point as an ordinary town resident.
Complete the story prerequisite, build the relationship, and follow his character events before using the proposal system.
